Developing Young Investigators Book Bundle

Overview

• Each book features practical investigations; one supports assessment for learning in science, the other links to the work of famous scientists.

• The Primary Science Teaching Trust (PSTT) developed these resources to help teachers deliver engaging science lessons. The bundle includes ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’ and ‘Explore, Engage, Extend’.

• ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’ links the work of 10 famous scientists to the work of contemporary scientists, giving children an appreciation of how wider scientific understanding develops over time. It features practical investigations based on historical figures, enabling children to generate their own questions. The book outlines learning objectives, resources, practical activities, extension tasks, vocabulary, focus questions, and cross-curricular links.

• ‘Explore, Engage, Extend’ offers 20 practical activities designed to support assessment for learning in science. These activities generate rich assessment data, allowing teachers to tailor topics to children’s needs and create new learning experiences. Suitable for Key Stage 2, the activities adapt to various year groups and curricula and can be used at any stage of a topic to provide a practical learning approach.
